At the beginning of October 2017, academics and children’s campaigners from all over the world gathered at the Gregorian University in Rome to look at the question of Children’s Dignity online. The three topics that framed the workshops were; cyber protection, cyber education and cyber responsibility. In the context of what was sometimes a harrowing conference that shared a great deal of research on extreme harms and sexual exploitation of children online, there were significant opportunities to promote the value of a rights-based approach. In summing up, all parties called for an internet ‘fit for childhood’. On the last day the Pope made his own announcement which you can read here.
