5Rights Partner with BT to Co-Create with Children on Digital Literacy

In November 2017, 5Rights and BT convened an Innovation Hothouse at BT’s Adastral Park, Ipswich. They set three teams of technical, design and policy experts the challenge of developing a 5Rights-based solution to educating children about how their favourite streaming, gaming and social media platforms make money.

5Rights and BT were joined by Vicki Shotbolt, CEO of Parentzone, Clive Manning from the Children’s Commissioner for England’s Office and Maggie Tam from Young Scot, who shared their insight and expertise with the team. Most important to the success of the Hothouse were the 12 children who joined them. They wanted to know how YouTube stars make money, and to understand why they find it hard to put their devices down at night.
